About me

Hello, lovely people!

My name is Charlotte and I am The Free From Mummy.  I started this blog way back in 2015 when my eldest daughter was just a few months old.  Over the years, I’ve branched out, written other blogs but this one always has a place in my heart.  My first blog!  The one where I write about parenting.

Who am I?

This is me, looking rather sweaty mid-run.  The question about who I am is a big one, but I will try my best to get to the root of what makes me ME!

I grew in up in the Medway Towns in Kent, before moving to Norwich to study maths at UEA.  After I graduated, I trained to be a teacher and spent 10 years doing that.

During my time at UEA, I met my lovely husband Dan.  After a couple of years together, we moved in, he proposed, I said yes and then we got married.  He’s a good bloke and I love him lots.

When I’m not writing, I am about and about exploring the world any way I can.  Whether it is taking the kids into the woods, jumping on my bike, heading out for a run or going for a swim in the ocean.  If I’m outside then I’m happy!

Why “The Free From Mummy”?

Back in November 2013, I was diagnosed with coeliac disease.  Coeliac disease is an auto-immune condition for which the only treatment is a lifelong gluten-free diet.

Therefore, my life suddenly became “free-from” gluten.  This was added to my self-diagnosed lactose intolerance which meant that cooking and eating out had to be pretty creative.

After my eldest was born, I became suddenly very aware of the environmental impact we have, particularly when raising children.  On top of this, I discovered how many harmful chemicals we can expose our children too if we are not careful.

The term free-from became less a dietary requirement and more a lifestyle choice, as we made the decision to keep our children away from plastic and chemical heavy products.

Let’s get in contact

I’d love to hear from you about your parenting experiences, life with dietary requirements, your views on feminism.  Basically, I just like to chat.  So make sure you check out the “Contact Me” page or head over to my social channels.

Can’t wait to connect with you!

Hi Charlotte, I hope you’re really well today and don’t mind me getting in touch out of the blue. My name is Katherine and I’m a Deputy Femail Editor at Daily Mail Australia. I saw your blog post on elimination communication and we’d love to share some excerpts with our readers – we would link back to your blog of course. Are you able to get in touch at all? I can be reached at katherine.davison@mailonline.com

Hi Katherine! As much as I’d like your readers to learn all about how good elimination communication can be, I do not support the Daily Mail. Therefore you do not have my permission to use anything written by me. Regards, Charlotte.
