I absolutely love eating out, it isn’t always healthy but it is such a nice change from cooking, don’t you think? Whilst chain restaurants have their place I also think sometimes somewhere more unique is better. That said I always like to check out reviews to see how good it is and look at the menu online. This means I can plan my food ahead, being vegetarian, and this helps greatly!

My favourite Mansfield area restaurants
As I live in the Mansfield area of Nottinghamshire these are the restaurants that I love near me. Perfect for if you are visiting Sherwood Forest or even Center Parcs at Sherwood Forest. They are all family-friendly but not the kind of place with a play area and kids running around screaming. In my eyes, they are the sort of places you take well-behaved children and those who will sit quietly on the whole.
The Dog And Duck
This is a restaurant very close to where I live and is in the village of Kings Clipstone. It is always somewhere you should book because it has great food and they are often booked up. I wouldn’t rule out just dropping in on the off chance but if you do you may be disappointed if they are busy.
The food at The Dog and Duck is great and they have burgers, pies, fish and chips and much more. It is all cooked to order and the flavours are amazing. Everything is always well presented too and the service is great. If you like ice cream then this is a perfect place to visit as they have a gelato freezer with lovely-looking flavours. I have not tried the ice cream though as I am always too full after my meal.
Bistro No 5
This is a restaurant that I have chosen for birthday meals out before because it is lovely. Bistro No 5 have quite a small menu but it is so amazingly cooked it really does not seem small and there is something for everyone. Private dining restaurants like this are great for those with allergies too as everything is cooked by the chef so they know every ingredient! We have been with a mixture of people and no one we have been with has ever been disappointed.
If you like cocktails then I would recommend booking a table during the early evening when they often have offers on! The cocktails are properly made and not to be missed! The car park is quite small so I would recommend getting there early or just getting a taxi – then you can drink!
The Greendale Oak
The Greendale Oak at Budby is a lovely pub and restaurant between Worksop and Mansfield just off the A60. Located in a small village it is a typical village pub and has a cosy relaxed feel about it with ample seating indoors and outdoors for drinking but if you plan to eat there I would highly recommend booking first as it is always full.
The food available is limited for vegetarians but I can definitely recommend the popcorn halloumi! If you are visiting Clumber Park this is a lovely one to visit a short drive away.
Do you live in Nottinghamshire and have any other favourites? Do let me know in the comments below. If you are looking for somewhere nice for a meal out be sure to check availability before you turn up as so often the best places are booked in advance! A website like Squaremeal is great for checking availability.
