Ben is 13 now and I still often wonder if somehow I missed the instruction booklet I should have received! They don’t get any easier, the issues you have with them just change! I wouldn’t change being a parent for the world, even Ben’s autism just makes him the amazing son he is. That said, however, it has been blooming challenging!
I have a few pregnant friends who are expecting their first child and of course, are a little anxious. I thought I would share my tips with them and you all!

Dear Friend, A letter about expecting a baby
I won’t add to your anxieties by naming you in this post as I know you are not alone in these feelings. Expecting a baby is a tough time. The world expects you should be happy whilst you are actually pretty unsure. In some ways, it is a happy time but in others a time full of anxieties.
While you are getting ready for the arrival you will be excitedly buying baby clothes. I know how fun this is but they grow so quick, buy some of course but lots of nappies too or reusables if you prefer! A few other things you should think about buying now are ready meals for the freezer (or cooking in advance) for when you are tired after the baby is born, Infacol in case your baby has colic (a long bout of crying for no obvious reason according to the NHS) and breast pads for you.
Everyone will have an opinion on how you should feed your baby. Remember it is your baby and as long as they are fed that is what is important. If you prefer not to breastfeed or can’t for any reason then this is absolutely fine, as long as they are fed! Either way, get some breast pads, you will leak, lots!
The most important bit of advice I could give you however is to tell you to ask for help. Whether it be that you are getting down and worrying you have depression or just that you need someone to pick up something from the shop for you. Whatever you do ask, people won’t mind helping and the difference it makes is amazing.
It is OK to struggle and it is OK to not know what you are doing, you are not superwoman and being a mum is blooming hard work! If anyone tries to tell you otherwise they are lying!
Love
Jen xx
