Regular exercise is important for children for ensuring they are both physically and mentally healthy. That’s one of the reasons why sports in schools are so important because there’s not always an opportunity for children to blow off that steam in a physical way at home. I have teamed up with a prep school in the UK to explore the benefits of sports in further detail.

Boosts Confidence
Winning a sporting match or achieving a new personal best is a great way to give children a well-deserved self-esteem boost. They receive praise and encouragement from their peers, teachers, and those watching on the sidelines, which is also great for their confidence.
Improves Social Skills
In traditional classroom environments, there is little opportunity for children to socialise with one another and build on their communication skills. PE lessons, on the other hand, are a chance for youngsters to work as part of a team and mix with other students that they might not normally interact with on their lunch break and during personal time. Sports in schools are great for promoting a sense of community spirit, which allows youngsters to feel like part of a wider whole.
Teaches Determination
If children are keen to progress their skills in a certain sport, they must learn to commit themselves and their time in order to improve. Determination is an important skill that can be transferred to various other aspects of life, both in and out of school. Essentially, sports can help encourage a growth mindset and teach children that hard work and determination usually pays off.
Promotes an Active Lifestyle
As previously mentioned, sports are great for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. If children engage in sports from a young age, they are far more likely to pursue physical activities when they get older which will benefit their physical and mental wellbeing.
